Catherine Sandstedt (She/Her), Coloratura Soprano, known for her versatile musical abilities with music ranging from the baroque era to the modern day. Performance highlights include Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno (Bellezza), Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), Rinaldo (Almirena), Dialogues des Carmélites (Blanche), Impressions de Pelléas (Mélisande), Il re pastore (Elisa), Bach’s Coffee Cantata, and Handel’s cantata Tu fedel? Tu costante?. Catherine regularly sings with Minnesota based baroque ensemble La Grande Bande, with performance works by J.S. Bach, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, G.F. Handel, and more.
In the Fall of 2024, Catherine began her work at Columbia College in Missouri as an Assistant Professor of Music as the Voice Area Coordinator. She teaches voice lessons, vocal diction, musical theater/opera workshop, music theory, and aural skills. Previously, Catherine taught at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island, NY as an Adjunct Faculty member since 2018. Additionally, she has taught privately since 2011, teaching many instruments: Voice, Viola, Violin, Cello and Piano. She enjoys working with students of all ages and musical backgrounds, hoping to help each student find their confidence with music, develop safe and proper technique and also help to expand each students knowledge of music theory. Catherine received her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from Stony Brook University in New York, and her Bachelor of Music (BM) in Vocal and Viola performance from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Catherine is an avid choral singer, and regularly sings with choral ensembles Vox Nova, and Prometheus (Dr. Paul Crabb). She has also spent 6 years singing as both a ringer and full-time member of NYC’s Marble Collegiate Choir, under the direction of Ken Dake. In addition to these activities, she has competed in many competitions, and was a 1st place winner and soloist for the North Shore Choir (2019); placed top 10 in the Kentucky Bach Choir Competition (2016); and placed 2nd in the Senior Women division at the 2015 National level of National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
